Update 07/01/21:  See more on this subject in my post: Color Management 101 for Photographers”: https://blog.main.wattsdigital.com/?p=3858     There are 3 steps necessary to successful color management – Profiling your Monitor is “Step #1”.  But let’s face it:  the main reasons most people avoid profiling their monitor are because they’ve got to buy something, and/or they think it’s too complicated.   The truth is, it can be quite simple to get your monitor to match the output of your photo printer OR favorite custom print lab.  All you need are the right tools, the main one being a Monitor Profiling package, which consists of

Updated 08/26/21       Two questions from Patrick C in San Diego, CA:   Should I be “soft proofing” my images before I send them to you? Printer and Monitor don’t match? Try this …

One of my clients had a question that brought up a common scenario – – Your prints are lighter/darker/ warmer/cooler (pick one) than your monitor. Although one of the services I offer is the creation of custom printer profiles (ALWAYS better than “canned” profiles, and essential for critical work), perhaps the only thing that needs to be done is to properly calibrate and profile your monitor with a colorimeter such as the Gretag-Macbeth Eye-One Display 2 (my favorite)… Here’s an email from Peter Nagainis (www.panartphoto) in San Diego …Read on… Hi John, I’d be interested in you doing something for

More groovy information on Epson Printers…

From some of our bloggers come some very good questions and suggestions: Mark Albert asks: “I have had severe problems with clogging print heads on Canon and would like to learn if Epson has similar problems. Haven’t had any ink clogging problems with the Canon but the print quality isn’t nearly as good as the Epson. I wish now that I had just gone out and purchased another Epson

Psssst, Hey, Buddy, Wanna Buy A Printer?

Ok, Ok, Everyday I get asked what kind of inkjet printer someone should buy. Let me answer the question with one word : EPSON… No, I’m not a paid shill for Epson (I wish!). I’m basing this on the various printers that I’ve worked with and profiled. If you are looking to purchase an inkjet printer soon, you can’t go wrong with virtually any Epson photo printer. This is not to say that your HP or Canon is worthless – FAR, FAR from it – I’ve seen excellent prints come out of quite a few. This recommendation is for those
